The weather here has been so gorgeous lately! It has been in the high 70s to mid 80s already and we are so ready for pool days, eating watermelon outside, and making homemade popsicles! Last summer was the first year my son really started to get interested in the pool and water activities. And we discovered that he would rather be outside all day long if he could, haha. Needless to say, we are so ready for mornings at the pool, snacking on watermelon after naptime, and running in the sprinklers in the afternoon.
*I was gifted these suits from SwimZip in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
One thing that I have learned to be careful of for myself is protecting my skin if I am going to be outside for a long time. My skin burns very easily (like in less than an hour it seems) and if I don’t take proper precautions, I will end up fried the next day.
At first, this didn’t really bother me too much. I got so used to getting sunburns that I had the routine down with how to deal with it to heal as soon as possible. Then I began hearing stories of multiple family members having skin cancer spots removed. I’ve always been in the habit of wearing a hat but that was more because I hate putting sunscreen on my face and I didn’t want to have to buy a new color of foundation for the summertime (priorities, ha), but I have made sure now that I always bring one if I’m going to be outside for a long time.
Then I had my son. He had my fair skin and blonde hair…I was sure he wouldn’t last longer than 20 minutes in the sun without getting a sunburn. (Thankfully that isn’t the case and he just ends up getting a nice tan.) Anyway, that first year he was born I really began researching anything and everything sun protectant.
Around the time that I was researching this information, I came across a swimwear company that creates UPF 50+ sun protective swimwear geared for children called SwimZip.
Honestly, my favorite thing about this company is that their suits all zipped up! Do you know how difficult it is to get a wet rash guard off of a grumpy toddler? Almost impossible! So I love that SwimZip created suits and rash guards that zip off and on. And, they have super adorable patterns available. I especially love the one piece suit I got for my son. But the nice thing about the separates is that he can wear it as a swim suit or I can even put the top on over his regular clothes if he was going to be playing for a while outside.
Another thing that I really like about SwimZip is that they have cute and modest options for girls. I have heard many of my girl mama friends complain about there not being many modest swimwear options for their daughters, but SwimZip has so many adorable options (I adore this suit!!)
SwimZip also offers rash guards for men and women! I chose the cropped rash guard because it is perfect to wear with my high waisted bottoms or even unzipped over my favorite one piece suit. I do really love their stripped Swim Dress Cover up as well! Often times, mamas, we become so distracted with making sure our little ones are covered and protected from the sun that we forget about ourselves, so these cover ups are perfect for throwing on to keep our skin safe this summer as well.
Now thanks to SwimZip, I know my son will be protected when all he wants to do is play in the pool all summer long.
*The month of May is skin cancer awareness month! Be sure to check back later for another post about a shop that sells everyday clothing that is also sun protectant! And be sure to check out my Instagram for a SwimZip giveaway on Monday May 8th!
