It’s the holiday season! So you will probably have at least one or two places that you will get all dressed up to go to. That means that you will probably want your toddler looking nice as well. For us that means putting on nice clothes not play clothes and making sure his hair is not sticking up all over the place.
Styling your toddler’s hair can be very difficult. They typically don’t sit still for long and they probably don’t enjoy having you mess with their hair for too long. However, I personally think it is worth the effort! My son looks so much more put together (I mean…as much as a toddler with inevitable stains on his shirt from his last snack can look 😉 ). I have found that the key to styling your toddler’s hair is a good distraction, clean hair, and a good styling cream (because trust me…when I try to just get away with just using water, it falls out and becomes messy in about 30 seconds! Ha!).
How to style your toddler’s hair:
This really begins the night before (or whenever you decide to do bath time.) We typically do baths at night and I will usually wash his hair every other day, unless he has product in it already (but we typically just hang out at home and I don’t style his hair when we are just at home). We just recently had the opportunity to try SoCozy hair products. We love the smell of SoCozy conditioner. Just a little of that at the end of his hair washing routine keeps it soft and smelling so good!
One thing that I always make sure of whenever I am buying any product for my son is that it is not full of a bunch of chemicals! SoCozy products are non-toxic and made without parabens, formaldehyde, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic color, propylene glycol. AND they are free of alcohol, gluten, wheat, peanuts, and tree nuts. I like to know that what I am using on my child is safe for him.
The next step for styling your toddlers hair is a good DISTRACTION! I don’t know about you, but it is rare for my little guy to sit still for very long. Right now he is obsessed with cars, so I will usually grab a few of his favorites for him to play with while I do his hair.
Once he is all good and distracted then I will brush all of his hair to smooth it out. SoCozy has a great smelling detangler you can use to help with this step. My son was “blessed” with my very thin hair so this isn’t really an issue for us.
Then I will get just a small amount of the SoCozy styling cream and work it into his hair. You really do not need a lot of product; just a little to help hold his hair while he is off playing and “toddlering” ;).
Once I have worked the product into his hair, I will use either my hands or his comb to style his hair. It really depends on the look I’m hoping to achieve. I typically will just brush it to the side but it is fun to try to do a fohawk sometimes too. I love the SoCozy styling cream because it really does hold his hair all day while he plays.
Enjoy your holiday party and be sure to get a cute picture of your little one’s styled hair before they inevitably fall in the dirt or smear mashed potatoes in their hair 😉
Right now you can get SoCozy products on sale at your local Target! These would even make great stocking stuffers for your little ones if you are still looking for items to fill their stocking with.
What is your system for styling your toddler’s hair? Any good recommendations for a distraction for them? Oh, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
