Can I tell you a secret? I did not bounce back to my pre pregnancy weight after having my son. Actually, I am still struggling to lose any of the weight since having him. Everyone said that breastfeeding and being so young when I had him would really ensure that I would just bounce right back into my pre pregnancy clothing.
When that didn’t happen after my son turned one, I started looking into a few different workout programs and easy ways to eat healthier. Well, being a mom to a toddler made it a bit difficult to find the time to workout. Before I had my son, my husband and I used to meet at the gym after we both got off of work and would fit in a workout before going home to make dinner. That wasn’t going to happen now. It was hard to find a time for me to fit in a workout and anything that I started, I had trouble following through because I was doing it all on my own and I didn’t have a real program or schedule to follow.
Then sometime around the beginning of this year, I ran into one of Laura Ralph’s (an Independent Beachbody Coach) posts on Instagram. I was super impressed that she had time to cook these amazing looking healthy meals and workout when she had a little one to look after as well. I began talking more with Laura and I decided to join her 21-day program to better health.

Ok, so I wasn’t really expecting any huge results (I honestly was hoping that I would lose all that extra baby weight, but I knew that that probably wouldn’t happen in 21 days). But what I was really excited about was actually having some accountability. Laura gathered a group of likeminded women (a few of their husbands joined as well!) and we would all keep each other accountable. It was encouraging to see other mamas making time to workout and plan healthy meals.
I knew that if I really wanted to stick with this program and not let my group down, then I would have to actually plan a good time to workout. So, I set my alarm for 5:00 the first day (that honestly lasted one week until I was too exhausted to get up). But at that point, I was familiar with the workouts and I knew that I could easily squeeze in that 30-minute workout when my son was eating breakfast or was playing with his Legos in the morning. If all else failed, I knew that I could squeeze it in during naptime and still have time to spare before my son woke up.
I was so impressed with how much I was able to fit in in just 30 minutes each day. Each day of the week is a different workout so you are not repeating the same one over and over for the full 21 days. (I loved that because I do end up getting bored with a workout if it just wants you to repeat the same thing every single day.)
One thing that I really liked about The 21 Day Fix® is that it made meal-planning super simple. It came with color-coded containers that held a certain amount for certain types of food. It’s not a diet, people! It is just being aware of portion sizes and making sure you get the right amount of each food group. (AKA: You can totally eat carbs! 😉 )
Laura was super helpful if I had any questions (which I did have quite a few at the beginning). She provided meal plans as examples for us and was always willing to help us if we had any issues. I was able to create a healthy and delicious meal plan that even my husband and toddler enjoyed! (This was super important to me because I did not want to be cooking something for me and then something separate for my family.) And, I felt really great because I was eating healthily.
Ok, so like I said, I wasn’t expecting anything drastic, but I was a little disappointed when I saw that I only lost 3 pounds and 2 ½ inches total. But I did notice that I had more energy and that I was getting stronger by the end of the program. I also felt much better in general from eating healthy meals instead of junk.
The 21 Day Fix® really helped jump start my health! I was stuck feeling disappointed and not knowing what to do about it before. I feel like The 21 Day Fix® really helped me get out of that. I loved that it showed me that I can fit in a quick but extremely effective workout in 30 minutes and that it helped show me correct potion sizes for my meals.
