Hello friends! How have you been? So I had my wisdom teeth removed last week, which is why I didn’t have a post for you all. I am on the mend and am honestly just glad that it’s over and done finally (I’ve been putting it off for a few years now, ha!) So we spent last week just trying to get by. I am so blessed to have family close enough to come watch that crazy kiddo of mine and help him get out some energy when all I could do was sit around and eat mashed potatoes. 😉 Anyway, moving on.
Today I wanted to share something that has been on my heart to share for a while now. I’ve mentioned it a few times on Instagram but I haven’t brought it up too much here yet.
Spending time daily in the Bible and growing in your walk with Christ.
It is so important to me to spend time reading the Bible and in prayer. Yet, this is also something that I have struggled with my whole life. I didn’t start taking this seriously until I was in high school. I’ve always been a morning person, so I would wake up early to spend some time reading and praying.
Since becoming a mama, I have struggled with this so much! Those early days are such a blur and all I wanted to do in my spare moments was eat something (nursing made me SUPER hungry!) or try to sleep. I remember for a short while I would read out loud on my Bible app on my phone while my son was nursing. But as he got older, this ended up distracting him too much and he would stop every time I said something. Then I remember silently reading a book on Prayer while he was nursing. I only got through the second chapter (I really want to start reading it again though!) But I remember falling asleep each time I would try to read because I was just so exhausted.
That time totally got me out of the habit of spending time with God. Over the past year now I have been working on making time for that again. I prefer to get up early and have that quiet time in the Word before my son wakes up, but if he’s been up a lot at night it can be very difficult to wake up early. I am working on giving myself grace in this stage of motherhood. But it helps to have a few different options when I can make time for reading my Bible.
Anyway, what I really wanted to share with you was a few different ways to spend that time in God’s word and to help you grow in your relationship with Christ.

- Scripture Writing
This is something totally new that I’ve only been doing for about a month now, but I love it! I saw another blogger mention it and I quickly looked it up on Google (here’s a bunch on Pinterest!) and found so many amazing scripture writing plans. I am currently doing one on Grace. It’s super simple, you just read the passage and then write it out. This is so helpful for me, because if I am just reading, I am not totally paying attention, so writing it out and reading it really helps!
- The Daily Grace Co Devotionals
Last year I found these devotionals as I was scrolling through Instagram and I decided to try them out. I absolutely loved them! They have about 30 days of material and each book goes over a different topic. I really enjoyed studying God’s word with these devotionals.
I have so many books that I have read and that I still want to read! I know, it’s not technically reading the Bible, but I have found that reading great books written by amazing Christian authors helps me a ton in my Christian walk. A few lately that I’ve really loved are Grace, Not Perfection by Emily Ley, The Finishing School by Val Marie, Make it Happen by Lara Casey, and I’m currently reading The Power of a Praying® Woman by Stormie Omartian.
- Prayer Journals
I love writing out my prayers. I began doing that in high school and it is so great to look back and see how God has worked in my life. I have always just used a notebook, but I have thought about using on of Val Marie’s prayer journals because I have heard so many great things about them!
How do you make sure that you are staying in God’s Word and growing in your Christian walk? I’d love to hear what helps you.
